OK, I’m In – Day 3 – Genesis 22

Day Three – Written by Pastor Kevin Slack

Biblical Example: Abraham (Genesis 22)

Prayer Focus: Your Sacrifice

Today is a day to consider your sacrifice. Is there anything that you might be withholding from God?

If there was ever anyone who had a just cause to withhold something from God, it was Abraham. In Genesis 22:2, God said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering.” The toll of this command on Abraham and Sarah must have been enormous. The temptation to offer a different but “suitable” sacrifice was palpable. The treachery of forsaking the promise of God must have bewildered his faith.

Nothing in this world mattered more to Abraham – except his faith in God. God had been testing Abraham. Verses later, after Abraham obeyed the Lord’s command, God said, “Now I know that you fear Me, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me” (Gen. 22:12).

Leaders reveal their character by their sacrifices, and their sacrifices confirm the character of God. God never intended to take the life of Isaac; He just wanted to know Abraham was willing to obey at all costs. God is always faithful to His promises and to His servants.
